Bonaventure Cemetery

The largest municipal cemetery in Savannah, Bonaventure Cemetery is one of the city’s most interesting attractions. While it is open to the public, and visited by friends and family of the people buried there; it became notable in 1994, when it was prominently featured in John Berendt’s 1994 novel, Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, not only in the storyline, but in the now-famous photograph used on the front cover of the novel and subsequent film. The statue in the photograph has since been donated to Telfair Museum of Art, but the cemetery continues to be visited and photographed for its many other statues, monuments and elaborate gravestones.
